Prix Dylan Cattiaux

Remi

Rémi Goerlich

Award Winner 2024: Rémi Goerlich (PhD Université de Strasbourg, 2022)

Rémi did a double-bachelor in physics and in earth sciences, followed by a master in condensed matter physics and magistère of fundamental physics in the university of Strasbourg. He then pursued as a graduate student, under the joint supervision of Giovanni Manfredi, Cyriaque Genet and Paul-Antoine Hervieux. His PhD topic was the study of the properties of a diffusive colloidal particle in an optical trap at ambiant temperature. This overdamped system is controlled by a combination of optical forces, imposing both an arbitrary time-dependent potential and external non-conservative forces. This flexible and well-controlled system allowed the xploration of modern questions of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics as ergodicity [PRE 103 032132 (2021)], classical-quantum analogues [PRR 3 033203 (2021), ArXiv:2405.01946 (2024)],  active matter from diffusion under correlated forces [PRE 106 054617 (2022)], optimal control [PRL 131, 097101 (2023)] and stochastic resetting [ArXiv:2306.09503 (2023)] from an stochastic thermodynamics point of view.

After graduating his PhD, Rémi started a Postdoctoral position under the supervision of Yael Roichman, in the school of Chemistry of Tel Aviv University. Building on the experience acquired as a graduate student, he has worked on non-equilibrium thermodynamics by engineering Maxwell demons over various platforms [PRR 5, 043193 (2023)] and developed novel thermodynamic control methods, based on stochastic resetting [PRR 6, 033162 (2024)].

The Prize will be awarded by Anne Louchet-Chauvet (Institut Langevin, ESPCI, CNRS, representing the Jury) and Pierre-François Cohadon (LKB, ENS, UPMC, CNRS, Director of the GdR MecaQ). The Award Ceremony will be followed by a presentation of Rémi Goerlich's work.

 About the Dylan Cattiaux Prize

The Optomechanics & Nanomechanics thesis award “Dylan Cattiaux” is a prize introduced by the GdR MecaQ, in 2021. This annual award aims at rewarding the outstanding thesis work from a young researcher who did graduate her/his PhD in a France-based research group, in one of the topics covered by the GdR. The award consists of publishing the thesis manuscript of the awardee in a periodic volume at EDP Sciences, plus a substantial personal prize money. The prize is officially supported by the French Physical Society and the French Optical Society.
